Will Recce, Principal, School Construction Corporation and Board Member, School-Business Partnerships of Long Island (SBPLI), announced that the Smithtown High School Robotics Team #810 was the winner of the musical theme contest. The theme, which was composed by team member Patrick Jaeger, will be used at SBPLI’s 2011 Long Island Regional FIRST Robotics Competition, which will take place March 24-26 at Hofstra University. The presentation was held at the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology) Robotics Competition (FRC) kickoff event at Stony Brook University’s Javits Center on January 8.

There were 16 entries for this contest. Other teams included Lindenhurst, The Wheatley School, Hicksville, Plainedge, Port Washington, Island Trees, Copiague, West Islip and Staten Island Technical. The Wheatley School, Island Trees, West Islip and Smithtown submitted multiple entries.

The winning entry was chosen by the members of the SBPLI board. Students worked with their mentors on the robotics team, and even with staff members of the high school’s music department. Smithtown will receive a $1,000 check at this year’s Long Island Regional FIRST Robotics Competition.
