In the first meeting this season, Dortmund defeated Augsburg 2-1
Borussia Dortmund are second in the Bundesliga, 19 points behind Bayern Munich. With the title race over, the race for second is the most interesting competition in Germany. Only three points separate second place and sixth place. On Monday, Dortmund host eighth-place Augsburg at Signal Iduna Park.

Peter Stoger has gone unbeaten in his first eight games managing Dortmund, breaking the man he replaced, Peter Bosz’s record of seven games, achieved earlier this season. Dortmund’s three straight wins have moved them into second place. Michy Batshuayi has been incredible in his first four games for Dortmund, scoring five goals in his first four games, including two against Atalanta in the Europa League. After missing the first six months of the season, Marco Reus has returned and looked like the same dominant player he was before his injury. Reus scored the game-winning goal for Dortmund last weekend against Borussia Monchengladbach.

Despite being one of the smaller clubs in the Bundesliga, Augsburg are eighth in the table with 31 points. Augsburg have been one of the better defensive clubs, allowing only 29 goals, the fifth fewest in the Bundesliga. However, over their last five games, Augsburg have struggled, losing three times and picking up only four points. Part of Augsburg’s recent struggles have been because of an injury to leading scorer Alfred Finnbogason, who has scored 11 goals. However, a calf injury might force Finnbogason to miss his fourth straight game. If Finnbogason is unable to play, Michael Gregoritsch will be asked to pick up the slack. Gregoritsch has scored nine goals this season.
