The New York Islanders hosted “Family & Friends Night” for School-Business Partnerships of Long Island, Inc. (SBPLI) at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale as the Islanders took on the Philadelphia Flyers on November 23. A portion of the ticket sales directly funded SBPLI’s annual robotics competition at Hofstra University in March.

Both SBPLI and the Islanders wanted to show fans that science, engineering and technology can be just as fun as professional sports. These robots were designed and built by high school robotics teams from Long Island. The Hicksville High School Robotics Team #1468 demonstrated its robot to those in attendance, who also had the opportunity to learn more about SBPLI.
