On December 16, School Business Partnerships of Long Island (SBPLI) held its fundraising breakfast at Farmingdale State College’s Knapp Hall to benefit the Fred Breithut Scholarship for incoming first-year students at Farmingdale State. School Construction Corporation presented a check to help fund the scholarship, and FESTO presented a check to provide funding for the Long Island Regional FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. Those in attendance included Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi, members of the Plainview-Old Bethpage “POBOTS” (Team 353) and their robot and Robert Drenckhahn, recipient of the 2010 Fred Breithut Scholarship and a first-year student at Farmingdale State College.

The scholarship is for four years, with an amount of $1,000 per semester. Among the requirements for students to become eligible are enrollment in the SBPLI Long Island robotics program while in high school for at least two years; an SAT score of 1650 or better; and enrollment in Farmingdale State College’s four-year programs in math, science or technology. The 2011 winning recipient will be named at the LI FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition in March 2011.
