Winners Announced at 11th Annual FIRST® LEGO® League Championship at Longwood High School

Members of Team #6435 GearHeadz of Rocky Point accept the Champion’s Award at the FIRST® LEGO® League Championship Tournament on March 1.

On March 1, one thousand students, parents, and volunteers convened for a day of learning, technology, and fun at this year’s FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League (FLL) Championship at Longwood High School.

After eight weeks of research and design and four qualifying tournaments, 40 teams of children demonstrated their problem-solving skills, creative thinking, teamwork, competitive play, sportsmanship, and sense of community. This year's challenge was WORLD CLASSSM, where the teams researched and presented their own creative approach to how we gather knowledge and skills in the 21st century.

The FLL competition is judged in four areas: project presentation; robot performance; technical design and programming of the robot; and teamwork, with a consideration of the FLL Core Values. The highest honor will go to the team that does well in all four areas and best exemplifies the spirit and values of the program.
